New candidate running for the Steering Committee
Tom Popple, Senior Partner, Natural Capital Partners
Biography:
I lead the European practice for Natural Capital Partners, supporting a portfolio of global businesses focused on delivering positive impacts on the world’s natural capital. Utilising results-based financing, carbon offsetting, insetting, natural capital financing and innovative engagement solutions, the programmes deliver measurable outcomes that drive brand and enterprise value.
I lead the value chain group within the business, driving the design and development of new protocols and solutions. Since 2017 I have led the insetting working group for the International Carbon Reduction and Offset Alliance (ICROA). I co-founded the Climate Cocktail Club – a new, growing and open network of sustainability stakeholders from all segments of society. I recently assumed a position as Advisor to ChangeX, supporting growth into new market segments and developing results-based financing propositions, including a focus on natural capital project approaches. I work closely with the Department for Agriculture's Forestry Service in the development and roll out of the Woodland Environment Fund. I have a MSc Environment Management from SOAS, University of London and a BA Geography from Sheffield University. I am an aspiring “off-gridder” and recently completed a self-build in rural Laois.
What Tom will bring to the Forum:
Since moving to Ireland in 2016, I have focused on developing a market for scalable and credible action on climate change, through protecting and enhancing natural capital – bringing the skills and experience of Natural Capital Partners. I will bring a strong and proven track record in engaging private sector actors into this space, enabling the development of frameworks and programmes that will add value to existing and new stakeholders. I am passionate about creating a movement of action here in Ireland on natural capital solutions and would welcome the opportunity to share that enthusiasm and ambition through a position on the Steering Committee.
