Former President Michael D. Higgins giving a keynote speech at the 2019 National Biodiversity Conference hosted by the National Parks & Wildlife Service with Natural Capital Ireland.
As former President Michael D. Higgins and his wife Sabrina have departed the Áras an Uachtaráin, Natural Capital Ireland offers our warmest gratitude for his championing of environmental causes. We greatly appreciated Michael D. Higgins' support over the years, culminating in a lovely letter sent to our Executive Coordinator, Deirdre Lane, on the occasion of Natural Capital Ireland's 10th Anniversary.
In the image above, Michael D. Higgins is giving a keynote speech at the 2019 Biodiversity Conference hosted by the National Parks & Wildlife Service with Natural Capital Ireland. The full speech is available on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yS1tkxFpNM. A stand-out quote for us was: "If we were coal miners, we would be up to our knees in dead canaries." We remind our community to take this as a call to action to accelerate the implementation of environmental policy.
Michael D. Higgins, Natural Capital Ireland wishes you all the best moving forward from such an inspiring and impactful presidency.
We also congratulate President Catherine Connolly on her inauguration and look forward to the upcoming term! Natural Capital Ireland had the pleasure of meeting President Connolly as she joined our think-in at the University of Galway in September 2024 to mark European Sustainable Development Network SDG Week and our 10th Anniversary - pictured here. In her role at the time as an Independent TD for Galway West, Catherine Connolly joined our exchange of ideas and insights on the potential of the natural capital approach and opportunities for nature restoration, education and collaboration.
