As Natural Capital Ireland marks 10 years of advocating for nature to be considered in all decision-making in Ireland, we are holding a think-in in Galway to reflect on our achievements and review our organisation's strategy for the years ahead.
To coincide with Sustainable Development Goals Week 2024, we are inviting organisations or individuals with an interest in our work and topics of natural capital accounting to meet with us afterwards at J.E. Cairnes School of Economics (Map), University of Galway, on September 27, 12.30-4pm. Join us in Room CA239e (Deloitte Zone, Bizhub @ Áras Cairnes) or in CA239b (the larger meeting room if numbers attending require, check doors for our sign).
NCI Executive Coordinator Deirdre Lane and colleagues will be on hand to discuss our work and potential synergies with any individuals or organisations who share our interest in valuing nature and biodiversity, be it within business, in urban areas, in rural communities, in education and in policy.
Ecosystem accounts are now being developed in Ireland by the CSO and the System of Environmental Economic Accounting, piloted in Ireland by INCASE Project has now been adopted by over 80 countries around the word. The framework demonstrates how nature underpins every aspect of our society, counting the true cost of what we are losing by destroying and degrading the ecosystems and resources on which we depend - our air, water, wildlife, pollinators, food systems, our health and, ultimately, our economy.
Since 2014, Natural Capital Ireland has been at the forefront of advocating for policy, participating in research and spreading awareness of local and global developments in this area and aim to explore how we can continue to connect, convene, inform and support further uptake and integration of the natural capital approach.
Come and join us this SDG Global Goals Week as we close out a successful decade of natural capital work and look to make strong connections for our future.
